THE CONSTITUTION OF FIJI

APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS OF GREAT COUNCIL OF CHIEFS

WHEREAS pursuant to section 72 of the Constitution the executive authority of Fiji is vested in Her Majesty;

AND WHEREAS that authority may be exercised by me on behalf of Her Majesty either directly or through Officers subordinate to me;

AND WHEREAS being satisfied that an occasion has arisen which is likely to give rise to a state of civil commotion I have declared that a state of public emergency exists in Fiji;

AND WHEREAS pursuant to paragraph (c) and (d) of regulation 2(1) of the Fijian Affairs (Great Council of Chiefs) Regulations certain appointments to the Great Council of Chiefs fall to be made by the Minister of Fijian Affairs;

AND WHEREAS in the circumstances presently prevailing in Fiji there is no Minister for Fijian Affairs but I am satisfied that it is in the public interest that such appointments should be made;

NOW THEREFORE I make the following appointments -

(a) Pursuant to regulation 2(1)(c)
