Fiji Independence Order 1970 - Meeting of Great Coucil of Chiefs, 10 July 1987

FIJI INDEPENDENCE ORDER, 1970

THE CONSTITUTION OF FIJI
______


MEETING OF GREAT COUNCIL OF CHIEFS


WHEREAS pursuant to section 72 of the Constitution the executive authority of Fiji is vested in Her Majesty;


AND WHEREAS that authority may be exercised by me on behalf of Her Majesty either directly or through Officers subordinate to me;


AND WHEREAS being satisfied that an occasion has arisen which is likely to give rise to a state of civil commotion I have declared that a state of public emergency exists in Fiji;


AND WHEREAS pursuant to regulation 3 of the Fijian Affairs (Great Council of Chiefs) Regulations meetings of the Great Council of Chiefs shall be held at such time and such place as the Minister for Fijian Affairs may by order determine;


AND WHEREAS in the circumstances presently prevailing in Fiji there is no Minister for Fijian Affairs but I am satisfied that it is in the public interest that a meeting of the Council be held;


NOW THEREFORE I ORDER that a meeting of the Great Council of Chiefs be held at the Civic Centre, Suva commencing on 20th July at 9.00 a.m.


AND I FURTHER ORDER that the Chairman of the said meeting shall be -
