Passports Act - Visa Regulations 1986

REPUBLIC OF KIRIBATI


Legal Notice No. 15

VISA REGULATIONS 1986
(made under section 20 of the Passports Act, 1979
(Cap. 66A))


In exercise of the power conferred on the Minister by section 20 of the Passports Act, 1979 (Cap. 66A), the Minister hereby makes the following Regulations.

Short title and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Visa Regulations, 1986 and shall come into force on 12th July 1986.

Interpretation

2. In these Regulations -

"visa" means an entry or note on a passport, certificate, or other official document signifying that it has been examined and found correct, especially as allowing the holder to enter or leave a country;

"Passport Officer" shall have the meaning assigned in section 3 of the Passports Act, 1979 (Cap. 66A)and shall include an overseas representative or such other person as may be authorised by the Minister to issue visas on behalf of the Government of Kiribati.


Mode of application

3. (1) Application for a visa shall be made by or on behalf of the person requiring such visa to the Passport Officer in the form prescribed in the Schedule to these Regulations.

(2) The application form shall, when completed, be forwarded to the Passport Officer together with the passport of the person requiring the visa.

Power to issue visa

4. (1) The Passport Officer may, in his discretion, after satisfying himself that he has obtained all the necessary information and that there is no reasonable ground for the application to be refused, and upon payment of the fee prescribed in Regulation 5 hereof, issue the visa by making an appropriate entry in the passport of the person requiring the visa.

(2) A visa may be issued for a single entry only or for multiple entries within a specified period of time. The maximum period for which a visa may be issued shall be three years if the passport of the person requiring the visa remains current and valid during that period.

Visa fee

5. A fee of ten dollars ($10.00) shall be payable in respect of each visa issued by the Passport Officer.

Repeal

6. The Visa Regulations 1982 and all previous Visa Regulations are hereby repealed.
