REFERENDUM (CALLING FOR A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION) (AMENDMENT) ACT, 2007

AN ACT

to insert two new proposed amendments to Schedule 1 of the Referendum (Calling for a Constitutional Convention) Act, 2006, P.L. 2006-56.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE NITIJELA OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE
MARSHALL ISLANDS:

PART I-PRELIMINARY

Section 1. Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Referendum (Calling for a Constitutional Convention) (Amendment) Act, 2007.

Section 2. Amendments

(1) Schedule 1 of the Referendum (Calling for a Constitutional Convention) Act, 2006 is hereby amended to insert a new proposal number 24 to read as follows:

ARTICLE II - BILL OF RIGHTS

Proposal No: 24

Article II, Section 1 and Section 12

“To amend these provisions in order to define the word “religion.”

It has been proposed that the word "religion," should be defined.

Section 3. Effective Date

This Act shall take effect on the date of certification, in accordance with the Constitution and the Rules of Procedures of the Nitijela.

CERTIFICATE

I hereby certify:

(1) That Nitijela Bill No:146 was passed by the Nitijela of the Marshall Islands on the 27th day of September, 2007; and

(2) That I am satisfied that Nitijela Bill No:l46 was passed in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Rules of Procedures of the Nitijela.
